SEC 2022-23 Candidate List

"Be the change that you wish to see in the world." This quote resonated with me six months back when I put my name forward for the Class Representative elections. It still does as I put forward my candidature for General Secretary of the Student Executive Council, XIM. Hailing from an Armed forces background, I have had the opportunity to interact with people from varied backgrounds and experiences and adapt to everchanging situations. Having had a rich experience in leadership stemming right from my days at school having been elected as the Head Boy of Army Public School to more recent stints as Class Representative of my section in XIM has allowed me to develop my interpersonal, resource management, and decision-making skills. These responsibilities entrusted to me are translated into action as such

  • Spearheaded interschool cultural fest, the first of its kind that the school had witnessed (Participation of over 30 schools)

  • Facilitated smooth flow of information from faculties and administration as class representative at XIM

While working in ITC Infotech for two years, I have taken up multiple responsibilities, delivered time-bound deliverables, led and mentored new joiners. Being quick to grasp processes and understand requirements made me more agile and a decisive person.

I have also had the opportunity of leading my school and undergraduate college football team to victory in various tournaments. I firmly believe that sports are an essential part of life, and in the same spirit, I encouraged my peers to take part in X-sports 2021. These past experiences have inculcated leadership qualities and helped me grow as a person.

The last six months at XIM have taught us a lot. We've come a long way from getting used to online classes to living and dining in XIM residencies and getting used to the rigor of physical classes. Our time on the campus was short but memorable. Hopefully, we can weather this storm together, be it online or offline. As the class representative, I have first-hand experience of interacting with different stakeholders and have acquired a deep understanding of the workings of the XIM administration. It also allowed me to understand the various issues that are posed to the student body and how to aptly handle them.

The upcoming academic year will come with its own set of challenges, but together I believe we can overcome them. We have our task cut out for us, which will require us to constantly look for innovative, out-of-the-box solutions and efficient execution of the same. Given a chance to serve as the General Secretary, I would work towards the following.

  • Bring normalcy to campus life: Seamless transition from online mode to campus life and restarting cultural activities and events central to the XIM ethos

  • Forge strong connections with senior and alums: Conduct interactive events with our seniors and alums to preserve the culture of XIM and facilitate a deeper knowledge transfer

  • Clubs and interest groups: Focus on Research groups in close coordination with the Centre of Excellence to publish articles and journals. Also introducing clubs such as comedy club to allow students to blow off steam

  • Business Excellence Summit & Xpressions: Restarting flagship events by working closely with alums, seniors and committees

These tasks will require a collaborative effort from the administration, committees, and the students to execute successfully. I believe I possess the right skill set to represent our batch as the General Secretary, and If given a chance to do so, I will carry out my responsibilities to the best of my ability and with utmost sincerity.

Management is something that has always intrigued me from a very early age. The knack of leadership, is a challenge that has attracted me in all its forms. The sphere provides immense opportunities to work with many individuals, bring fresh perspectives to the table, ideate and execute plans. The process in itself is a huge learning experience that I have cherished across the Positions of Responsibilities that I have been entrusted with previously.

Having served as the Student Body Head of Don Bosco School, Park Circus, Kolkata, and then the Founding Student Board Member of the Xavier Finance Community at St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata has given me exposure to leadership and management roles of student bodies. It is this that I seek to utilize and grow further as General Secretary. These experiences exposed me to a plethora of tasks such as events/fest management, funds procurement & utilization, coordination of all student activities, and most importantly, serving as a bridge between the administration and students.

Seeing the environment of work because of my family background and my association with our NGO in Kolkata, Siddhartha Shankar Ray Foundation, wherein I have organized welfare programs such as blood donations, vaccination drives, and upliftment drives, have added towards my passion for working.

At Xavier Institute of Management, I have had the opportunity to serve as the Cultural Representative for my section. The last few months have enriched me and given me an idea of both – online & offline working of things. Helping my section with the minor queries, alongside new activities to beat the rigorous schedule and bring the section closer, has been a learning process. Working under the Student Executive Council for a plethora of batch-wide activities, irrespective of the nature of the task, and striving to complete it in the best way possible has helped me grow. Especially, standing by my batchmates in the more challenging scenarios was the biggest takeaway. My position as Cultural Representative was never a restriction but more of a platform to work, whatever the task may be.

As a member of the Student Executive Council, I bring with myself the assurance to give my best for the batch, even if it means to be the last man standing. I want to work towards resolutions of the smallest glitches in the MBA student experience, taking them to the correct forum. Continuing transparency in communication with the administration and aiming for a smoother process would be an aim. Issues about academics, co-curricular activities, onboarding would definitely be the horizon, but my focus would remain on improving the daily functioning. With a calm composure and strong communication, I believe the MBA experience can be enhanced for everyone.

Across the institutions that I have been a part of, I have always aimed and had a positive mutual relationship. I hope to continue the same and serve the institution and my batchmates to the best of my ability.
